The colder months are here, and hence we welcome that time of year, perfect for spending an evening or two snuggled in front of a good documentary!
But which ones will peak your curious mind I hear you ask? As a documentary enthusiast myself, I have compiled a list of my favourite docs to watch just for you! Enjoy!
5. Catching Killers
Docuseries, True Crime, Investigation, Suspense
There are 2 seasons of this absolutely tantalizing docu-series. I happened upon this completely by accident, and I can safely say I am obsessed.
This series dives head first into the stories of accomplished police officers, homicide detectives and legal professionals who discuss in detail some of the most complex, disturbing, and difficult cases they have solved.
From the horrific story of Aileen Wuronos to the incredibly complex unmasking of BTK, these detectives give us every juicy detail of how they took down some of the most infamous killers in America. And it’s fascinating.
Well worth a watch.
4. 100 Humans
Social & Cultural Documentary, Witty, Quirky, Science
If you’re looking for more of a quirky watch to peak your interest, look no further than 100 humans. This addictive little series takes 100 different humans from varied backgrounds, and subjects them to an array of playful experiments.
Each experiment is different, but joyously explores the age old question, what makes us human?
From sex, happiness, pain, and how we feel about getting older, you name it and they’ve probable done an experiment on it.
A truly pleasant watch that will leave you feeling a little less alone in the world, and wondering if there really is a right way to tear a toilet roll?
3. Inside The Mind of a Cat
Documentaries, Family, Animals, Cute
Have you ever looked at a cat and thought, I wonder what’s going on inside that fluffy mind? Lucky for you, this documentary has the answer.
For 67 minutes, we follow a group of pet therapists and cat owners who dive deeply into the mind of our feline friends, showing us how much they may truly be aware of, what they could be capable of, and whether or not they really do love us back.
A great watch for all cat lovers or just those eager to learn more about cats. Or even anyone who has ever appreciated the subtle aloofness of a cat.
I feel like I should say cat one more time.
Cat… Go and watch it!
2. The Tinder Swindler
British, True Crime, Mystery
If you have not yet discovered the iconic nonsense that is The Tinder Swindler, I sincerely encourage you to grab a large bowl of popcorn and a very comfortable blanket, as you settle down for the most bonkers 1 hour and 54 minutes of your life.
Posing as a millionaire, jet setting, diamond baron, Simon Leviev conns his way into the hearts and lives of his victims, rinsing them for everything they’ve got before leaving them in the dust.
However, his victims have decided to fight back, and this documentary will show you why. This series will have you screaming uncontrollably at your tv.
That is, after you’ve picked your jaw back up from the floor.
1. Don’t F**k With Cats
Docuseries, Crime, True Crime, Detective, Adult
This is one of my favourite documentaries of all time.
Released in 2019 it’s a slightly older one, but that doesn’t mean it’s any less thrilling. A shocking and graphic video is shared online, showing a cat being killed by a dark figure in the background.
Disgusted and outraged at what they saw, a group of animal lovers ban together to hunt for the figure in the video, and in the process uncover a string of hideous crimes.
This series showcases the positive power of people, the incredible things a focused group can accomplish, and how you should never, ever, under any circumstances F**k with cats.
This 3 part series will leave you seriously considering whether you could also become an online sleuth. *Impulse buys a magnifying glass*.
A must watch.
