How To Celebrate Your Friends On Galentine’s Day

The day of love is quickly approaching, and if you’re anything like me you’ll relish any excuse to celebrate those you love most!

This year, as well as my glorious other half, I want to make sure that I take the time to celebrate some other key loves of my life… my friends. Good friends are so important, and there’s nothing quite like those formative female friendships to keep you going!

They’re always there when you need an ear to rant to, always ready with a pack of Kleenex to wipe away your tears and, more often than not, they’re always ready with a bottle of fizz to celebrate those small wins in life.

So, without further ado, let’s celebrate your gals. Let’s Galentine this day!

Here are some fun little ideas of how to make your Galentine’s Day extra creative and fun this year!

1. Host a “Bake Off”

My friends and I did this one year during a time when Mary Berry was all the rage, and my god did we get into it. Each one of us was tasked to bring our version of a show-stopping cake or bake to our next get-together. Each cake would be judged blind and the winner decided on a vote, after which the bakers would be revealed.

Is it time consuming? Yes.

But is it worth it? Honestly, for the sheer competition alone – it’s worth it!

Not to mention there will be some glorious tales to share about the trials and tribulations of your cake…one nameless friend of mine arrived with what she called “cake bars” after revealing that it was in fact her original cake that she had destroyed in frustration.

We gave her a 7/10 for taste. Sorry Fliss…

2. Spa Day

If a Galentine’s Day celebration is not the perfect excuse for a spa day, I don’t know what is!

Why not grab your nearest and dearest, find a great and affordable spa and spend the day relaxing and catching up. Life can be so hectic and overwhelming at times, so take any excuse you can for a little self care to celebrate you and your friends.

Or, if going to a spa is a little out of reach for you, why not buy a couple of face masks, cucumbers, nail polish and maybe a prosecco or two? Pop on that best dressing gown and get relaxing!

3. Silent Disco

I recently attended a friend’s birthday weekend where we hired a silent disco and I nearly burst.

It’s surprisingly affordable, as the equipment is usually handed over to you in a box when you hire it out with clear instructions included to make sure you make the most of the experience. It’s so much fun, you can control your own volume, plus your neighbours are happy that the wild rave next door can’t be heard!

I also recommend removing your headphones mid-dance session to witness the utter hilarity going on around you. Well worth it, and guaranteed to bring your gals some joy!

4. Games Night

Something that unites myself and my gals is our love of games. Card games in particular we find to be particularly fun. I would highly recommend ‘Goat Lords’, ‘Exploding Kittens’, and, if you haven’t happened upon it yet, the incredible ‘Unlock’ series.

Grab any excuse you can to have fun with your friends. Maybe suggest everyone brings a different game the others haven’t played yet to a party.

Trust me, after your first round of ‘Unstable Unicorns’, your friendship will never be the same. Do it!

5. A Goddess Ceremony

Okay, run with me here. Something amazing that a friend of mine did last year was to secretly present us with awards in what she called a “Goddess Ceremony”.

She gave a little speech about how much we all mean to her, and then gave out some certificates which detailed what she thought our best qualities were, and what she valued about our friendship the most. It was so unexpected and personal and such a great idea.

So often female friendships in particular can be so highly scrutinised. Well it’s time to show the world how important they can be. Healthy, loving female friendships are extraordinarily special and so important. So why not tell your ladies exactly why you love them!

No matter what you end up doing this Galentine’s Day (yes, I’m now sticking with Galentine’s Day as a thing forever), just remember that your friends are such an important part of your life. Like fine little roses in a flower bed, they need to be nurtured, watered and, most importantly, loved.

Give them the props they deserve, and remember to thank them for all they do to make your life ever so much brighter. Cherish them, and they will do the same for you!

Happy Galentine’s Day to you all!
