The first month of the year, January, is normally filled with coldness and sadness, especially as the festive season is over. However, there is a fun challenge set every year for the duration of January that is continuing to grow in size of participants: Veganuary.

Veganuary is a month-long challenge where participants aim to eat and live vegan, meaning that no animal products or by-products are to be consumed or used in any way (clothing etc). Whether it be to offset the health consequences of Christmas, or for the fun of it, Veganuary is a great challenge to try out. Whilst it does have some definite benefits, the mindset surrounding this challenge should not be too binding, and it is definitely ok to fail.

As stated, there are some benefits to be had from partaking in the Veganuary challenge. Let’s have a look at them!

1. Knowing What You Eat

Stricter diets, such as the vegan one, are helpful for being more conscious about the health consequences of eating poorly.

Obviously, there is a lot of grey area with eating habits as many people have different requirements and health needs, but for those that are able and are looking for a good place to start, Veganuary is a helpful blueprint.

Where normally one may reach for a left over Quality Street, on the Veganuary diet, the benefit of it is maintaining focus on not eating certain products. For example, in ordinary chocolate, there is dairy. Therefore, this is a no-go for Veganuary.

Thus, a vegan substitute would be a good choice, but that does not mean that one is healthier than the other, but rather it challenges instinct eating and requires the individual to really think through what they are putting in their body.

2. Knowing The Impact On The Environment

It is not uncommon to suggest that eating meat-based, and animal products has a negative impact on the planet. Be it mass breeding or long travel distances of certain products, these all contribute to the negative daily impacts on the planet.

Thus, a benefit of Veganuary is by eating vegan, this personal impact is cut down and is also, if enough people do it, is able to really show large companies the impact the consumer can have on a business, and perhaps inspire change.

3. It Can Improve Your Mood

Another benefit to eating vegan is that there is a chance to improve your mood. Whether it is from the nutrients from eating more fruits and vegetables, or from succeeding at a fun challenge, the mood benefits are endless.

January is known as one of the hardest months, and so something uplifting and fun can be a good way to maintain high spirits during this period.

Also, Veganuary is a great way to keep January interesting. Once the Christmas markets and the festive cheer is over, Veganuary is a good way to keep the month exciting!

4. Boost Your Energy And Health

Finally, another benefit of partaking in Veganuary is that the benefits of eating vegan is that it can increase your energy and maintain healthy, happy skin.

Again, this could be the benefit of the diet itself, or from the joy that this challenge can bring.

Whilst there are many benefits to Veganuary (as explained above), it is also absolutely ok to fail! It does always feel good to complete a challenge, but if you trip up or have to finish Veganuary early, it is the trying that counts.\

Even doing one day with this challenge, this can promote healthy eating and living.

Ultimately, the benefit is in what you did achieve, therefore it’s not really failing. Simply, Veganuary is a chance to enjoy a different challenge and to spice up your January!

So, why not? Give it a try.
